Protect Your Home from Criminals
Here are some ways to make your home less inviting.
MAKE IT LOOK AS IF SOMEONE IS HOME. Criminals do not want to encounter anyone for the most part. They tend to stay away from occupied homes. Set lights on timers to go "on" and "off" randomly when you are not home. Don't let newspapers and mail accumulate outside. If you don't have a answering machine turn the ringer on your phone off when you are away. Don't leave notes on your door telling people you are away. Arrange for someone to house-sit while you attend family functions, such as wedding and funerals that have been mentioned in the newspapers.
DON'T PROVIDE COVER OR EASY ACCESS FOR INTRUDERS. Keep bushes and other plants below window level. Cut back low tree limbs and remove trellises that are close to upper windows, porches or roofs giving access to upper stories. Keep the outside of your house well lit, both when you are home and when you are away.
SECURE ALL EXTERIOR DOOR. Lock all exterior doors, including your garage door when ever you are away from your home. Use dead bolt locks that have a throw (the part that fits into the door frame) of at least 1 inch. Place a stick in all sliding door tracks. Make sure you have a garage door opener that also turns on a light when opened. Change all locks when you move into a new house or appartment.
SECURE ALL WINDOWS. Make sure all window latches work properly and are kept locked. Attach window air conditioning units with long screws or bolts fitted into the window and structure.
INSTALL A ALARM SYSTEM. Alarm systems are a major deturrant to all criminals. When buying a alarm, take into consideration, your home, what you want to protect, who lives in your home, and how elaborate and sensitve a system you want. Then call PROTEK for a free estimate.
